Today we have a Tutor Group time, in which everyone draws a mind map to think about what they're going to develop in the next step. I have always persist in making a device, through which I believe it will fulfill my idea because the audience tend to feel more directly. By installing a sculpture in the public space,it has a resonance for the audience. I talked to Chloe about my work, and she told me that I could check Greek mythology, in which harpies was special to the vultures that I wanted to make. In addition, Jennie told me that there are two writers: Marner Warner and Buddal Melean, who are both particularly famous mythologists in the industry. Therefore, it took me two days to study the two writers. Later, I came to a conclusion that learning art or making a sculpture is as the same as writing a book or making a song. In a nutshell, these values are given by man; by that i mean the underlying meanings behind works and human beings are relatively close.

Tutorial time

I shared thoughts with Ben Fitton today. After the discussion, i began to think about how to develop my work in limited time and money.I believe the meaning and the process behind the work is more essential than the work itself. On the theme of dream, he told me that he was very curious about the relationship between "reality" and "dream" in my work, and he suggest me to find the connection between them.

research Mariko Mori

Mariko Mori is a Japanese artist whose work is also related to surreal imagination, initially with contemporary media. In 2013, her work "Rebirth" made a breakthrough, and I am very interested in it. Inspired by the customs of the ancient Celts, the stone circle in Transcircle 1.1 (2004), with a set of periodically glowing LED columns. The combination of technology is her new exploration, which is the subject that I really want to try. Because my parents are also doing electronic products, especially in explosion-proof lamps. Because I grew up in such an environment, I have a certain understanding of the combination of technology in lighting and art. In addition, one such example in this series is Flat Stones (2006), which is a collection of ceramic rocks similar to the Chomon archaeological site. and I believe it's very interesting. The dream theme of my development this time is to associate with an ancient custom in Chinese Tibet called "sky burial". This participation in prehistoric culture stems from her pursuit of universal values shared by humanity. Therefore, it's a quest I share with the artist Mariko Mori.

research Lindsay Seers

Lindsay Seers's work is a bit like my own childhood experience. From her own perspective, she explores her relationship with her work, resulting in a project to internalize camera technology. Since I am very interested in the combination of art and technology, which is also an important lesson I want to learn. In addition, I studied the work from Lindasy Care (less) by Lindsay Seers (Fabrica, 2019), in which she showed in a shadow play on a multi-faceted geometric object, and what she wanted to do was to question our morality and how our society itself was structural. In addition, she used VR form and the film medium to reflect, creating a virtual time, space and characters to make this work.

Lecture about Language of Art

The theme of today's lecture is taught by Andrew Chesher in Language of art. The relationship between art and language is shown in four forms: art in language, the language of art, language in art and language as art. Art is mediated by language. And he explained it in six categories: language of form, just vision, film language, proposals, dematerialization and images of language respectively. Thanks to his lecture, I have a deeper sense of my own major from it: art is for expression, no matter what form it can be. Therefore, I rethink my work, whether I can directly use words to express my main thoughts, each reality and the corresponding object of the dream. i mean these words can be imagined by the audience.

Tutor Group Trip to National Gallery

Jennie asked us to find one or more paintings that appeal to us in the National Gallery. This is my third visit to the gallery. For me, these classical paintings in the gallery have a lot to do with the basic paintings I have studied for more than ten years. Artists will respect the real modeling ratio of the characters, spatial relations and other factors to paint. This makes me have a greater understanding of the development of art in these hundreds of years, and there are many kinds of contemporary art today. So how do people change their artistic ideas according to the development of the times. What am I going to say to the world now?

ree

I return to the two paintings that I found. The first one is a picture of the king's coronation. The reason why I'm interested in is that when I didn't look at the introduction, I saw real people in the picture, like Caspar, Virgin and Shepherds. Also, people who imagined human things like the Dove of Holly Spirit, Balthasae and so on. This has something to do with the work I'm going to develop in Unit II, where the artist creates the painting based on real life or biblical stories. It is true that the scene in the picture seems messy and orderly. It's exactly like a clip. Why do I say this is because the scene in the picture is in an undecorated outdoor, uneven slate road, and a puppy eating. This is a bit different from the traditional coronation ceremony, where royalty is usually held in high-level palaces. It is obvious that there are many angels in the sky, and they are the characters created by the painters. This has something to do with the work I'm developing now, how to combine reality with what dreams can imagine, to relate and affect. One of the ideas I got from this painting was that there had to be supported by strong stories so that the work was more valuable.

ree

The reason why I'm interested in the second painting is that the work is signed and dated on the original frame, but it is unknown whether the artist considered it finished or not. Usually people define a painting to complete, that is, there is no blank picture, all objects are above color, but the painter only painted the result, and only painted the color of the background. I feel very beautiful, but I don't think it's a success to be an artist who does something that others can see. I think a completed painting is a masterpiece, making people have a sense of the exact meaning. I think, this is also what I want to think about: what kind of picture is really completed and who can define. if it is the most beautiful picture, is the time to stop pen? How the painter should judge himself? This work I have developed this time is thinking about the expression of my work, and want to express my theme in the language of art.

Honey-Suckle Company: Omnibus

This is my second visit to this exhibition called Honey-Suckle Company:Omnibus. I took these pictures when I went there for the the first time. I think the number of sculptures is limited. just as I imagine. They are all made of some retro and interesting materials. Although the appearance is not perfect, this is the art that the artist wants. And I once wanted to find my artistic style, but I thought for a long time, so I hope I can keep childlike. By that I mean It' full of colors and various elements, which impresses the audience with its funny style.

ree

1.I like the colour of the work , which was the same as the wall paint. Meanwhile, I was thinking about the expression of the work. The artist laid the photographs and some other materials on the board and seemed like trying to compose a description of something based on the connection of them. As for me, it is a very special approach, which can be used in the first process of my work. I suppose that I can put different materials and elements in a frame.

2. I have seen a lot of this type of work like Materia Prima (2007) and I like it very much. The artist puts the audience in an environment made of Wood, plaster and white paint, thus producing feelings.

3. The work named Rainbow Press Page 4 (2019) used Pepper's ghost to play the video, which was interesting. And with the way of stereoscopic projection display, it is very innovative and technological, using plinth, ceramic, flat-screen monitor, glass and video.

4. The series of photographs from the last two photographs reminded me of Eikoh Hosoe's works. The stories in these monotonous pictures were mysterious , just as the scenes in the folklores. Evoking me the feeling of the ghost, all these things were ephemeral, which seemed like they are going to vanish from this world in the next second.

5.

The hypersonic speakers created the sound like the flies circling around your head, but I fail to find where it came from , since it adopted fabric, metal and hyperSonic speakers in the sculptures from Honey-Suckle Company and Konrad Sprenger Ohn End (2005) and Non Est Hic (2006).That was very impressive. In addition, the cloth that hovered over our heads seemed irregular, but in fact, it was in order. There is also a stair-like sculpture that makes people associate the stuffs with our imagination.

When I was looking at this work, Jennie told me that I can look at this work which serves as a device that you have always wanted to do. This makes me begin to think about the relevance of my work to this art piece, which is a magical mystery.

I investigated a work from Bernie Krause, who is an American musician and soundscape ecologist. Bernie Krause developed the concept of bio phony, based on the relationship between each living being and the complete biological natural sounds (known as bioacoustics).

It has become an incredibly effective instrument for observing changes in the world's remaining wild habitats. Also it helped lay the foundation of a new scientific discipline: Soundscape Ecology.Bernie Krause archives these soundscapes so that they may be passed onto future generations, in case the great animal orchestra should eventually fall silent one day. This is really shocking, since I can see his contribution to society from his works which is really too difficult to be able to do so to some extent.

The first work above is also implemented in a scene, in which there is a pond on the display screen and the platform viewed by the audience.

When the film is shown, the audience seems to be on a boat, listening to the sounds of endangered species in nature or species that people can hardly hear of.

In addition, the display screen will show a variety of animal audio levels, as if telling what story and like their heartbeat.

The second one was several lights swaying in the air with a distant sound, as if UFOs hovering above our heads. Following the movement of the lights, they created hypnotic feelings to me.

Group Crit

I was very depressed, since I didn't do any practical work except for some of the notes in my cell phone memo. So I decided to reschedule my plan.

26th Nov

Group Crit

When I attend the group crit, I shared with my group members of what I thought, and I wanted to express the purpose as well as the most special point of my work.

But Jennies says everyone sees these words that I sort out and they might have different connotations. Therefore, words are not the best expressions of my work.

After that, I wondered if I had expressed my original intention, so I reconsidered the problem. I believe, as long as the artist herself can express, there is no specific language. Although everyone thinks differently, what all the artists can provide to the audience is just within a boundary. So, even if everyone thinks differently, it doesn't matter.

Research Seungwon Jung

1.Memories Full of Forgetting #02 , Seungwon Jung , 2018, installation digital print on fabric unthreaded by hand, magnet, paper and rock, 115 x 200 cm.

2.Memories Full of Forgetting #01 , Seungwon Jung , 2017, mixed media digital print on fabric unthreaded by hand, magnet, paper and rock, 115 x 172 cm.

I visited the artist's exhibition this October. Artist Jung prints his picture on the silk cloth, and she hooks the pattern in the middle of cloth, reflecting a sense of droop of water waves. Jung connects this with the gaps in our consciousness as well as in our memories. By removing threads from the fabric, she refers to the neurological process of forgetting and memory loss, and the imperfect nature of what has left behind.

I feel it assembling people's dream, in which it was presented layer by layer, just like silk cloth woven out of the same. For the exhibition on the December 2nd, I'm going to implement my plan to print my work on the silk cloth. Because silk cloth is like a dream weaving, layer by layer.

Today, everyone wants to show their work. I chose a place to hang my cloth, which is opposite to a window. When the sun shines down, there will be shadows, which is impressive. This reminds me of the encounter between Mono-ha Art's exploration of nature and industrial objects. My cloth is a piece of industrial goods, and the window is the channel to the nature. Therefore, I find myself lacking knowledge in the theory of Scene Art, Policy Exhibition and so on. Since the silk cloth is smooth, but it is not as transparent as I thought. Therefore, when I want to continue to develop my work, I need to do more research on textiles.

Assessment and Reflection

Today I went to the tutorial to meet my teacher. I am very depressed, because I did not do any physical homework. I will continue my work now in any forms like illustration, movie form or installation form. For example, the marshmallow tree I had to do before, and I find it very difficult to achieve in the hotel. My cloth is a piece of industrial goods, and the window is the channel to the nature. Why don't I just do an experiment in the classroom? This means that I did not carry out my plan well. I should have done the experiments in the classroom, which means I fail to carry out my plan well last time. I plan to take a good look at the style of my own illustration and study some comic video artists in the last half of a month before Christmas.

Research Richard Linklater Waking life

At the beginning of the video, there will be subtitles to indicate that the illusory feeling of the picture is very like a dream, the painting style is very smooth and realistic, the combination of reality and illusory is very novel, and many different perspectives are used for painting, which I like very much.

I also studied every story of the anime. Very interesting, very special, very thought-provoking, very thought-provoking, and very philosophical. Many clips, I like very much.
